Why understanding myths are important

Yesterday, I posted one of the myths from the Bringer of Justice. One of the comments I have gotten is the myths seem intrude on the story. The comment puzzles me. In the novel, you are learning about an entirely new world that in many ways does not function as ours does. Worlds function smoothly because people who populate them believe in common myths. The people of the world in the novel believe in All-Evil. He is as real to them as the Devil is to any Christian. Someone from another world would not understand great medieval art such as Bernardino Parenzano’s Temptations of St. Anthony circa 1494 unless they understood the concept of the Devil.

Any comments?
